APPLICATION FOR GROUP DANCE CONTEST
PART OF STAR SLAM - 2024 NEW YEARS EVE PARTY
You got moves? So do your friends? Enough to win $300?
We're hosting a group dance competition as part of STAR SLAM, a NYE party hosted by Icebox Project Space and Vox Populi. Each team will be assessed based on their originality, musicality, execution, and presentation. Judges will select three finalists and the crowd will determine the ultimate winner.
All applications accepted but space is limited!
RULES:
- Groups must consist of two or more dancers.
- Groups will perform to a track that is between 2.5 - 3 minutes long.
- The theme of the party is STAR SLAM. We encourage dancer to use songs that reference stars, the cosmos, outer space, etc.
- Performances will take place between 8:30 - 9:15pm. A winner will be chosen at 9:15pm.
- Judges will rate each group on a scale of 1- 5 based on the following criteria: originality, musicality, execution, and presentation. The top three teams will then be presented to the audience, who will vote for the winner by applause.
- Groups must fill out an application and pay a $10 entry fee to Icebox Project Space either by Cashapp or Venmo. Applications and payments are due December 15th. Limited slot available!!
FAQ
What kind of flooring will be available for the performers?
Performers will dance on a concrete floor. Supporting shoes, knees pads and other supportive gear is recommended!
Will my group be able to rehearse in the space?
Yes! After applications close, groups will be able to schedule up an hour-long rehearsal time in Icebox. There will also be a tech walk through on the day of the party.
Are props and costumes allowed?
Props and costumes are not only allowed, they are ENCOURAGED! All props and materials must be completely cleaned by the dance team immediately following their routine within 30 seconds. Please do not include: liquids, glitter, flames, food or other hazardous/messy materials.
How serious is the contest? Is this only for trained dancers?
Dancers of all skills, backgrounds and perspectives are encouraged to apply! While all groups will be judged on a set of criteria, ultimately it's a contest to see who can win over the hearts of the audience. Do that in whichever ways you excel.
Who are the judges?
Judges will be announced after applications close. Judges will be chosen in part based on the applicants.
If I enter into the contest, do I have to pay for a ticket for the STAR SLAM NYE PARTY?
All dancers competing in the competition will receive free entry into STAR SLAM and a free drink ticket!
Can I apply even if I am not certain who is on my team yet?
We encourage everyone to wait until they have their team locked in before applying. Although the deadline is December 15th at 11:59pm, applications may close sooner if we reach out maximum limit of contenders.
